Předsezonní preview

Již v sobotu nám startuje sezona a je tedy nejvyšší čas podívat se, co je v týmu Patriots nového.

Hlavní události preseason určitě je prodloužení smlouvy s trenérem Williamem Levi Sturgisem, informovali jsme zde.Dále se vedení podílelo na debatách o podobě nového sportovního areálu v Liticích, který by se měl v budoucích letech stát domácím areálem nejen pro nás, ale i pro baseballisty a rugbysty z Plzně. Za snahu a vstřícnost městu moc děkujeme a nemůžem se dočkat!

Klub zahájí svou jubilejní třicátou sezonu. Bude opět startovat v II.lize a své domácí zápasy odehraje v areálu SK Bukovec. V soutěži startuje 9 týmů, kromě nás jsou to Bělá Raiders, Brno Alligators, Brno Sígrs, Jičín Hurricanes, Prague Lions, Prague Mustangs, Příbram Bobcats a Třinec Sharks. Po základní části, ve které se každý tým utká s každým, postoupí první čtyřka tabulky do semifinále. Pak se sezona dohraje systémem play off, 1.vs 4. a 2.vs 3. Vítězové se pak utkájí v Silver bowlu o titul. Loni nám finále uteklo v poslední akci semifinále, pokusíme se tedy letos opět posunout dál.

K tomu by mělo pomoct i minimální oslabení týmu. Oproti loňské sezoně budou z opor chybět jen americký import Marcus Brown, dále Daniel Šejbl, Patrik Formánek. Po deseti letech, doufejme jen na čas, kariéru přerušuje i Míra Blecha. Trenér Sturgis se tak bude moci opět opřít o QB Martina Ernekera, univerzála Patrika Vainera či dlouhodobé opory Michaela Bártu, Martina Duška či Davida Pivovara. Hodně se čeká i od mladých pušek ať už Jonase Gerriho na runningbacku či linebackera Dana Kokošky. Ten se vrací po půlročním angažmá v Německu. Kromě Jonase v týmu také na hostování z Panthers pokračuje i Jakub Pažický.  Moc se těšíme na první starty Dana Vokurky a Matěje Šlehofera v seniorském týmu. Kluci jsou v klubu od svých sedmi-osmi let a doufáme, že takových bude přibývat. Trenér Sturgis dobře ví, co v nich má, když je na podzim trénoval v juniorce. Velkou posilou by měl být linebacker Gerald Raab, který k nám přišel ze Straubing Spiders.

Po čtyřech letech v Prague Lions se do Plzně vrací Jakub Brejcha a David Hlaváček (ten si kariéru u Lions spestřil ročním hostováním u nás v sezoně 2020). Po dvou letech v juniorce Black Panthers se vrací i Lukáš Bouda. Z Ústí prichází mladý DB Václav Šedivý a po pár letech v Příbrami se vrací také veterán Martin "Žinet" Vokurka.

Tím se dostáváme k borcům, jenž sice leccos pamatují, ale stále mají týmu co dát. A tak se opět těšíme na výkony Pavla Tumpacha, Jirky Urbana a Františka Janýra. Po sedmi letech se k americkému fotbalu vrací i Ondřej Štolba a zapomenout nemůžem na Petra Procházku a Vladímíra Černého mladšího.

Ačkoliv se nakonec nepodařilo dotáhnout příchod amerického importa, věříme, že máme kvalitní, dobře složený tým, který se porve o nejvyšší příčky v soutěži. Budeme rádi, když si uděláte čas a přijdete nás podpořit!

With the season kicking off on Saturday, it's time to take a look at what's new with the Patriots.

The main story of the preseason is definitely the contract extension with head coach William Levi Sturgis, we reported here. Furthermore, the management has been involved in discussions about the shape of the new sports complex in Litice, which is expected to become a home venue in the future years not only for us, but also for baseball and rugby players from Pilsen. We are very grateful to the city for their efforts and helpfulness and we can't wait!

The club will begin its 30th anniversary season. It will start again in the II.league and will play its home matches in the premises of SK Bukovec. There are 9 teams in the competition, besides us there are Bělá Raiders, Brno Alligators, Brno Sígrs, Jičín Hurricanes, Prague Lions, Prague Mustangs, Příbram Bobcats and Třinec Sharks. After the regular season, in which each team will play against each other, the top four of the table will advance to the semi-finals. Then the season will finish with a playoff system, 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd. Last year we missed the final in the last event of the semi finals, so we will try to move on again this year.

Minimal weakening of the team should help. Compared to last season, only American import Marcus Brown, Daniel Šejbl and Patrik Formánek will be missing. After ten years, hopefully only for a while, Míra Blecha is also interrupting his career. Coach Sturgis will be able to lean on QB Martin Erneker, all-purpose player Patrik Vainer or long-term mainstays Michael Barta, Martin Dusek or David Pivovar. A lot is also expected from the young guns whether it be Jonas Gerri at running back or linebacker Dan Kokoška. The latter returns after a six-month commitment in Germany. In addition to Jonas, Jakub Pažicky also continues to be on loan from the Panthers.  We are looking forward to the first starts of Dan Vokurka and Matej Šlehofer in the senior team. The boys have been with the club since they were seven or eight years old and we hope to see more of them. Coach Sturgis knows well what he has in them, having coached them in the juniors in the autumn. A big addition should be linebacker Gerald Raab, who came to us from the Straubing Spiders.

After four years with the Prague Lions, Jakub Brejcha and David Hlaváček are returning to Plzeň (the latter will spend a year with the Lions in the 2020 season). Lukáš Bouda is also returning after two years with the Black Panthers. Young DB Václav Šedivý comes from Ústí and veteran Martin "Žinet" Vokurka returns after a couple of years in Příbram.

This brings us to the players who remember a lot, but still have a lot to give to the team. And so we are looking forward to the performances of Pavel Tumpach, Jirka Urban and František Janýr. Ondřej Štolba is also returning to American football after seven years and we cannot forget Petr Procházka and Vladimir Černý jr.
Although we were not able to complete the arrival of the American import, we believe that we have a quality, well-composed team that will fight for the highest positions in the competition. We will be glad if you take the time to come and support us!
